Jefferson, Ohio Covered Bridges Self-Driving Tour

It was a warm and sunny fall October day.  The leaves were changing all around us, the colors were bright and so my
daughter and I set out on Route 46 to travel from Warren, Ohio to Jefferson, Ohio to see some covered bridges.  I've been waiting for months for the start of fall to do this self-driving tour.  The above pictured bridge is the Netcher Road, Jefferson, Ohio Covered Bridge located in Ashtabula County.

This is a snapshot of the self-driving covered bridge map of Jefferson Village, Ohio.
My daughter and I managed to find bridge and barnquilt 4 and bridge and barnquilt 31.
I have to say, this was quite the countryside scavenger hunt. Despite the fact I had this map,  they weren't the easiest to find. Number 56 I believe was located off of an unmarked road.  Too challenging for me (and ran out of patience) to find it.

Grape Catsup

Grape Catsup

This grape catsup recipe was found in a local Geneva-On-The-Lake, Ohio community newspaper.  I don't know who the original author is.

2 quarts ripe grapes
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground allspice
vinegar to cover ( I used red wine vinegar)

Cook the grapes until they are soft and coming out of their skins.  Drain the vinegar.
Run the pulp, skins and seeds through a sieve and use a spatula to press everything back into the pot.
Add the sugar and spices.  Bring everything slowly to a boil.  Cook until thick.  Stir as needed.
Bottle as you would tomato catsup.   Yields approx. 1 pint.

I made this for the first time August 2012.  It was pretty simple to make.

A Christmas Shirt Becomes an Apron!

I DON'T wear Christmas shirts or sweaters anymore.  Rather than donate this shirt, which was a gift, I decided to alter it I had one yard of Christmas themed fabric on hand, and a red cotton bias trim usually reserved for quilts.  I had the components to make an apron!

The shirt was cut apart at the shoulder seams and the back also had a seam.

Add a cotton bias trim sash as a belt, and finished!
